Base has launched Basenames subdomains/subnames created via ENS
For a while now there was basenames already in existence (basename.app) offering .base name they are now winding down and have been leading users to base’s basenames
The next chapter of onchain identity on Base is with Basenames.
We have been working closely with the Base team, and as the launch of Basenames draws near, Base Name Service (BNS) will be winding down to ensure a unified name service and onchain identity experience for everyone on Base.
Rest assured, this doesn’t mean you’ll be without a Basename—stay tuned for more updates coming soon.
While .base would have been a very cool version of .eth, .base.eth also works I guess and also makes sense since base is a Layer 2 rollup of ETH.
As per base X account, all names will be up for dutch auction upto 36 hours.
When Basenames launch, all names will be listed via Dutch auction with prices decreasing over 36 hours This will give everyone a fair shot at securing a name they love and prevent bots from snatching them up It’s almost time to build your Based profile
Right now users can claim 1 early access basenames, to check if you’re eligible visit the official site at Basenames and enter your desired name and the site will tell you if you’re eligible for early access.
